Students in my first-year seminar Pollinators in Peril designed and planted a campus pollinator garden. Students studied native pollinators, native plants, and pollinator gardens from an interdisciplinary perspective, including the biology of plants and pollination, gardens as an art form, and indigenous perspectives on our relationship with the natural world. A key focus of the course was the design and planting of a campus pollinator garden. Students collaboratively decided on the goals of the pollinator garden, which is designed to support native bees and butterflies and to serve as an educational site that supports mental health. The completed garden contains over 15 native species of plants.
