We are a non-profit workers cooperative building apps, games, and digital experiences that encourage prefiguration, social ecology, and anti-hierarchy. Our first project, Symbi, is a free gamified language-learning app that helps people to learn the languages of the nature around them. Symbi’s algorithm uses spaced repetition learning to ensure that everyone’s experience is targeted to their learning. Species they struggle with will come up more often than ones they can easily identify, even as they progress through more difficult levels. Our languages are built around a variety of interactive questions and minigames, making the learning process fun and rewarding. Other features, such as customisable profiles, leaderboards, and a collectible digital stickerbook of all the species someone has successfully ‘learnt’ – including factfile cards on each of them – means Symbi has something for everyone. Our aim with Symbi is to reconnect people to the nature around them, allowing them to feel more confident undertaking grassroots ecological restoration action.
