The Manager Fellowship is designed to support beginning ranchers as they move from ranch hand positions into ranch management or business ownership.
Based on feedback from our New Agrarian Program alumni, Quivira Coalition created a Manager Fellowship that offers continued professional development of agrarians, training them in financial management, grazing planning, and leadership so they can start an enterprise or secure management-level jobs.
Our cohort is small so fellows can access individualized technical assistance and support in applying what they learned directly to their agricultural operations. While it’s easy to find resources on topics like financial management, business structures, and aspects of entrepreneurship or ranch management, the fellowship’s small size and its emphasis on active application of knowledge are keys to success. Participants aren’t just absorbing information; they are engaging with it, tailoring it to their context, and receiving guidance from mentors as they put it into practice.
The first cohort of 11 fellows graduated in Nov. 2025. Two fellows are running their family ranches. Two fellows are operating custom grazing businesses. One fellow created a beef liver supplement company, sourcing from regenerative agriculture ranches.
The second cohort of 12 fellows was onboarded in Dec. 2025.
The Manager Fellowship was started by Quivira Coalition but is supported by many in our community (including but not limited to):
- Paicines Ranch
- Many experienced ranching mentors across the West
- Dave Pratt, Ranch Management Consultants
- Olivia Tincani, Olivia Tincani & Co
- Anjali Oberoi, Bernoulli Finance
- Farm Commons
- Caroline Wild, Wild Ranch Solutions
- Good Meat Project
- Shannon Stober, Jump Start Training
- John Wagner, 4L Grazing, Ferrell Ranch
We hope this fellowship keeps people in agriculture beyond the first few years, where a big drop-off happens. Longer-term impact would be keeping people in agriculture long enough where they not only have a sustainable business, but are also mentoring the next generation in the industry. As the fellowship grows, we hope to hone the structure and curriculum to have different tracks for entrepreneurs and ranch managers. General funding to sustain the program is needed, and we’re always looking for other resources, scholarships, and technical assistance opportunities to connect participants to.
