As a certified forest therapy guide, I offer forest bathing experiences to visitors and residents of all ages at various locations on Oʻahu (and on occasion the Neighbor Islands). Individuals and groups (sometimes corporate) come with their own goals, and as a guide, mine is to use my training and intuition to open the door to the therapy that nature always provides.
I founded my company in 2018, the first in Hawaiʻi, and have now guided about 500 walks. The pandemic and the immediate aftermath brought a great deal of attention to the need for connection and community. Demand (even for remotely guided, i.e. virtual, forest bathing) was high. The desire to provide a tool for resiliency to those affected by the Lahaina, Maui fires produced a campaign including free guided walks and recruitment of guides based on that island. But, while current events have raised anxiety levels, I believe economic factors have depressed bookings. Support from others in the field helps, land managers have always been tricky to collaborate with.
My dreams and needs include sponsorship to be able to offer walks free of charge, land managers who are also committed to giving their community a restorative space, and an influential voice promoting the importance of nature connection for human and planetary health.
