The piece of land we use is generously donated by the town of Franklinton. The project was originally started by a couple under the name “Feed Franklin,” but they lacked the necessary farming skills to make the land productive. A retired farmer took over the mission, and through his expertise, along with community resources and volunteers, transformed the land into the productive garden it is today. The garden maintains its original purpose of feeding the community’s most food-insecure population. We provide thousands of pounds of fresh produce each year to three senior centers and a local food bank.
We are working towards obtaining a drilled well as right now we water everything by hand, which can take many hours each day to water two acres. Now that we are a 501(c)(3) organization, we are hoping to expand our reach and lead educational classes for all ages and increase our volunteer staff.
