For this project, we immersed ourselves in the world of the forest. As inequality and far-right parties gain ground again in Germany, society is becoming increasingly divided and isolated, especially in the East of Germany, so the filmmakers Lena Maria Held and Marcus Nebe began talking to different people from the Ore Mountains in the former GDR about the role that nature and plants play in their lives and followed them into the world of ancient lime trees and oaks. They encountered trees that are storytellers, friends, and healers, and with their project fostered the connectedness between humans and plants. Together with their protagonists, they organized an exhibition and a film screening celebrating the region’s old trees and they explored the knowledge and treasures that the forests generously offer us, especially in difficult times.
