We are inspired by the principle that everyone deserves to eat, and to eat sustainable, nourishing, culturally appropriate, good, tasty food.
We are bringing together many people and projects in new ways, building on the local mutual aid project that stepped up at the start of COVID-19 lockdown to provide fresh, locally-cooked meals to dozens of people to heat and eat at home.
We are composting from the community kitchen, local greengrocer, local faith groups, and households. We are linking together community members who want to learn more about growing, harvesting, and cooking locally grown vegetables and fruits.
We are using agroecological techniques and intercepting local plant material, which would otherwise be taken away or even thrown into “waste” systems.
We are providing more habitat for local free-living animals and other life in acro-ecologically tended soil, vegetable beds, fruit shrubs and trees, and garden margins.
But most of all, we are raising relationships between all these communities of life, in the often harsh environment of a Global North city.
My dream is for our web of relationships to become self-sustaining, so when the time comes for me as the founder to be composted in my turn, our community of free-living beings will continue to grow and thrive.
A real living income and benefits for all would help most, but also, an interactive community online, where we can share the work and insights of what goes into growing such thriving communities of life within cities.
